SPOTLIGHT ON BERNIE:

Hi, my name is BERNIE. I am a medium-sized lady dog, part German Shepherd and I was born in August 2005. Some of my brothers and sisters are also in the program - Reese, Beauty, and Rebel. While Rebel was lucky enough to go into a home with a student who loves him very much, my sisters and I still live at sanctuary. Don't get me wrong - we have fun where we are, but I would really love a forever home and family. You should have seen me when I first arrived at the sanctuary. I was so scared that hardly anyone could touch me. I get pretty nervous in new situations. I have to tell you though that I'm proud of myself lately. I've come out of my shell quite a bit these last few months.

I really enjoy getting petted now and will actually run up to the volunteers (I used to run away from them). I am also working on getting comfortable with baths and being walked on a leash. I like most other dogs but I'm not too sure about cats as I've never really been around them. I would definitely be up for trying to meet cats though. I need a person who will have patience with me - it may take a lot of patience. But, if you're willing to give me a chance, I think you'll find out how sweet and loving I really am.

Bernie is spayed, microchipped, and up-to-date on her shots.
